salt and light blog awardWith literally hundreds of votes cast, our summer-long search to identify the best Christian blogs that, like the Jubilee Centre, seek to demonstrate the continued relevance of the bible to the world today or otherwise give a Christian perspective on social and political concerns of interest to the world outside the Church is now over!

After slight weighting of results to reflect the frequency of posts on the blogs and the level of interaction with and among readers (as evidenced by comments), the top seven 'salt and light' blogs are as follows:

  1. Vinoth Ramachandra: Secretary for Dialogue & Social Engagement on the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) Senior Leadership Team
  2. This Side of Sunday: Jon Coutts, a doctoral student in systematic theology at Aberdeen
  3. The Urban Pastor: Richard Perkins, lead pastor of a church in South London
  4. Archbishop Cranmer: an anonymous blogger 'examining religio-political agendas with politico-religious objectives'
  5. Make Wealth History: an exploration of sustainable living in the real world by brothers Paul and Jeremy Williams
  6. Theos: a public theology think tank
  7. Peter Saunders: CEO of Christian Medical Fellowship

By way of having earned an honorary mention, among the nominated blogs, the post that most caught our eye during the search was one on Douglas Wilson's Blog and Mablog on Political Dualism, which observed:

The commission is not to "make disciples" in our modern individualistic sense. That is included, and amen to it. But the commission as the Lord worded it says that we are to disciple the nations. To say that cultural transformation is not part of this is to completely overlook the direct object of that verb. We are to disciple the ethnoi, their hearts, souls, and minds, but also their court systems, and their film industries, and their politics, and their art studios, and their publishing industries. This certainly means discipling their citizens, and we start with that. But it is just the beginning.
