In reflecting upon the unique contribution that the Jubilee Centre has historically made to the Church and society and upon the scope of work identified in our mission statement, we have identified the following five goals for the coming years. All our activities are intended to contribute in some way to at least one of these goals:
- To host and mentor at least one church-supported intern each year from Sept 2009.
- To support and mentor at least one postgraduate researcher at any time, further developing our understanding of the biblical vision for society.
- To be conducting at least one major research initiative with at least one key partner organisation at any time.
- To communicate, together with key partners, the biblical vision for society to an ever-wider audience, producing at least one significant new resource per year.
- To facilitate the formation of organisations seeking to develop or apply Jubilee Centre thinking in at least three more countries by 2012.
Partnership
As will be evident, the emphasis that we have placed on partnership in our vision and mission statements is equally reflected in our goals. It is only through working together with others that we believe any of us will ultimately have any real impact on the communities in which we live.
The resources that we are able to produce at any time is dependent upon a network of people with whom we have built up relationships over the years. We are always keen to establish and develop new relationships with academics and professionals who share our vision to explore biblical social teaching and its contemporary applications. If you are interested in getting involved and would like to learn more about this area of our work please contact us.
Research
Research is the wellspring from which the rest of our activities draw their sustenance. Our research has a twin focus - on the content of biblical social teaching and on the nature of its application to a modern society (principally Britain). We are, as Chris Wright has said, in the bridge-building business, connecting the world of the Bible and the world of contemporary society.
At different times we begin from different ends of the bridge. Sometimes we take a key biblical theme and then explore the nature of its contemporary relevance. At other times, we begin with a challenging contemporary issue and move back to the Bible to help us make sense of it. Either way, we produce research papers, books and Bible studies on a regular basis presenting our conclusions.
Communication
We seek to share the fruits of our thinking as widely as possible. This website is a key gateway for people to access all of our resources and for us to engage visitors in discussion of the issues facing modern society. Our regular publications include the quarterly publication of Cambridge Papers and our in-house newsletter, Engage, both of which explore a variety of issues in contemporary public life. If you would like to receive either of these for free, send us your contact details using our online form.
