On Monday a group of bishops tabled an amendment in the House of Lords that called for child benefit to be excluded from the proposed £26,000 cap on benefits, provoking strong reactions from those within and outside the Church. ...

New director and team members for Jubilee Centre

A message from Sarah Snyder, chair of the trustees:I am deeply encouraged to announce news of our growing staff team at the Jubilee Centre, despite difficult financial times.Jonathan Tame joins us as Acting Director, having spent the last two years working closely with Michael Schluter at Relationships Global developing international courses and training in Relational Thinking - a subject very close to Jubilee Centre's heart!...

Free sex: Who pays?

Rather than addressing fundamental moral issues around sexual freedom, this paper starts with our culture’s premise by taking a utilitarian approach and exploring the financial impacts. This is in line with the common assumption that what truly matters for public policy can be quantified. It argues that significant costs of sexual freedom are imposed on society as a whole, rather than borne solely by the individuals most directly involved. This represents an enormous moral hazard and, as a result, unsustainable and unjust public expenditure. The paper then explores ways to address this, the most compelling of which is the Bible’s emphasis on rootedness and group responsibility....

A Christian Response to Immigration

Immigration is a live and perennial issue, and often prompts polarised and unhelpful responses from politicians, the media and the public. The distance between the two grows larger still with the revelations of the Leveson inquiry, which take more shocking forms every day. Last week Tony Blair's former Director of Communications and Strategy, Alastair Campbell, described elements of the press as 'frankly putrid', stating that they relied on private investigators and fabrication for the sensational stories that sell newspapers....

Affordable housing

The government has unveiled plans to address the lack of affordable homes and increase the number of first-time buyers. 'Right to buy' will be made available once again, with the money from sales of social housing going back into the building industry to create more affordable homes....

A New Way to Engage

Launched on 1st October at two conferences simultaneously – one in Milton Keynes and one in Sheffield – our much-anticipated Jubilee Lifestyle discipleship course is now available for use in churches and small groups. If God is going to transform society in accordance with his ways, both history and scripture indicate that he will do so principally through his people.
